Dr Nicholas Chileshe is an Associate Professor in Construction and Project Management, and Deputy Director: Sustainable Infrastructure and Resource Management (SIRM), Research Concentration at University of South Australia. Nicholas joined the University of South Australia in July 2009 from the U.K where he taught construction management, and risk management for 10 years. In that time, Nicholas also worked as International Business Developer responsible for the African and Middle Eastern markets. Nicholas obtained his MSc in Civil Engineering from Vinnista Polytechnic Institute (U.S.S.R) in 1988, then MSc in Construction Management in 1996, and PhD in Construction Management in 2004 from Sheffield Hallam University. Nicholas also worked as a Civil Engineer for the Ministry of Works and Supply’s Buildings Department in Zambia for 1 year (1990) and taught Structural Engineering at the University of Zambia. From 1992-1999, he worked as a Bridge Engineer for several local authorities and consultancies in the U.K. Nicholas was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) in South Africa conducting research into Construction within the Southern African Built Environment Research Center (SABERC).
To date, AsPr Nicholas has published over 300 refereed journal and conference papers, 11 book chapters and involved in over 120 undergraduate, postgraduate and HDR student projects. Nicholas’s research activities are aimed at contributing to a better and sustainable environment. He explores the applicability of reserve logistics supply chains in addressing the construction and demolition waste’s negative impact on society. Nicholas’s research expertise is in the areas of sustainable construction, risk management, waste management, reverse logistics and contemporary issues in developing countries. Currently, Nicholas serves on the Editorial Boards of the International Journal of Project Management; International Journal of Building Pathology and Adaptation; and Journal of Engineering Design and Technology. Nicholas also serves as the Deputy Editor for the Engineering, Construction and Architectural Management Journal.
AsPr Nicholas also possesses extensive peer review experience and to date, has undertaken more than 600 peer reviews for 85 Journals. He has received recognition as an outstanding reviewer, and more recently for two Journals under the American Society of Civil Engineers, ASCE’s Outstanding Reviewer Recognition Program. For the third consecutive year, from 2016 through 2018, he received an Outstanding Reviewer Award for the Journal of Management in Engineering (JME), and two consecutive years, from 2017 through 2018 for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems, Part A: Civil Engineering. Link: https://ascelibrary.org/page/journalsoutstandingreviewers. In 2017, Nicholas was ranked 3rd among the top Australian peer reviewers out of 18,380, and first in the construction discipline. https://campusmorningmail.com.au/news/plaudits-for-peer-reviewing-as-uofq-leads-the-world/
