Dr Ruchini Jayasinghe (MAIB, MAIQS) is a Lecturer and researcher in Construction Management with over 10 years of teaching experience across Sri Lankan and Australian higher education institutions. She currently teaches in the Construction Management program at Adelaide University Online, University of South Australia (now Adelaide University), where she facilitates courses including Quantity Surveying Practice; Construction Cost Planning; Building Estimating; Advanced Quantity Surveying; Project Appraisal. Her teaching is informed by strong industry alignment, with expertise in the Australian and New Zealand Standard Method of Measurement (ANZSMM), Australian Cost Management Manual (ACMM), and digital tools such as CostX, alongside experience with international measurement standards. Her teaching philosophy centres on transforming foundational student knowledge into applied competencies while fostering self-efficacy, critical thinking, and lifelong learning pathways. She is committed to creating engaging, student-centred learning environments that bridge theory, practice, and emerging industry needs.
Ruchini holds a PhD in Construction Management from the University of South Australia and a First Class Honours degree in Quantity Surveying from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Prior to her current role, she served as a Lecturer in the Department of Building Economics at the University of Moratuwa and contributed as a visiting lecturer at the Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka, teaching across diploma and professional programs.
Her research spans construction management, circular economy in the built environment, reverse logistics, and construction and demolition waste management. More recently, her work has expanded into the scholarship of teaching and learning, with a particular focus on student cognitive engagement, online assessment, and the integration of emerging technologies such as GenAI and immersive virtual reality in construction education. She has led and secured several funded projects, including initiatives on GenAI-enhanced learning analytics, ICAP-based cognitive engagement frameworks, and immersive 3D/VR learning environments.
Ruchini is an active contributor to the academic community as a guest editor, peer reviewer, and conference committee member, and has published widely in leading journals in construction management and education. She also contributes to academic leadership and service roles, currently serving as an Academic Integrity Officer at UniSA Online (since 2024), a Leadership Committee member of the Early Career Research Network (since 2024), and a Mentor for the UniSA/Adelaide University Student Advisory Group (since 2025).
