Dr. Nam Nghiep Tran is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Chemical Engineering and Associate Dean of Internationalisation (Southeast Asia) within the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology (SET) at The University of Adelaide. A recognised leader in international engagement, Dr. Tran spearheads partnerships that strengthen academic, research, and student mobility links between Australia and Southeast Asia, particularly Vietnam. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to education, knowledge exchange, and international collaboration, Dr. Tran was honoured with the 2025 Australian Alumni Award for Building Knowledge and Connecting People, one of Australia’s most prestigious accolades celebrating alumni who have made exceptional impact through education and engagement
 
Originally from Can Tho City in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, Dr. Tran completed his Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering at Can Tho University, followed by a Master of Engineering in Chemical System Engineering at The University of Tokyo under the Panasonic Scholarship. He later earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at The University of Adelaide through the Australia Awards Scholarship.
 
Beyond academia, Dr. Tran is deeply engaged in community building and professional networking. He co-founded the Adelaide University Vietnamese Students Association (AVA), fostering a supportive environment for Vietnamese students in South Australia, and currently serves as Chapter President of the Vietnam–Australia Scholars & Experts Association (VASEA) in South Australia, promoting intellectual exchange and cooperation between the two nations.
 
Dr. Tran also serves as Associate Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Green Processing and Synthesis (GREENPS). His research spans process control and instrumentation, process design and optimisation, renewable energy systems, reaction engineering, plasma technologies, ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) assessment, and life cycle analysis. Through his work, he aims to advance sustainable industrial technologies while nurturing the next generation of globally connected engineers and researchers.
