Fadzai Praise Musakana is a PhD student in Chemical Engineering at the University of Adelaide and part of ARC Training Centre for Battery Recycling researchers. She has a strong interdisciplinary background in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering (BSc) and Chemical Engineering (MSc) from the University of Zagreb. Her research interests focus on sustainable resource recovery, battery recycling, and environmentally responsible engineering systems.
Her master’s research explored copper-doped ceria catalysts for soot oxidation, with emphasis on materials synthesis, catalytic performance, and environmental applications.
Fadzai is particularly interested in integrating Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into battery recycling systems to support circular economy solutions and reduce environmental impact. Her work is driven by a commitment to sustainability and innovation, with the long-term goal of contributing to low-carbon technologies and advancing research capacity in developing regions.
My research focuses on integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to advance sustainability, ethical sourcing, transparency, and innovation in battery recycling supply chains. It addresses the growing challenge of increasing lithium-ion battery demand alongside fragmented global recycling systems. It utilizes Life Cycle Assessment to evaluate environmental impacts in end-of-life recycling. In parallel, ESG analysis is used to assess transparency, ethical sourcing, governance structures, and sustainability performance within current recycling supply chains. Ultimately, this work contributes to the development of scalable, policy-relevant solutions that support circular economy goals and enable more sustainable and responsible battery supply chains globally
