My research focuses on understanding and promoting physical activity across the lifespan through the design, delivery, and evaluation of supportive environments, programs, and policies. My work spans health, sport, and community settings, with expertise in physical activity promotion, sport and exercise psychology, and implementation science.
As the Australian Sports Commission Play Well Research Fellow (Places and Spaces), I lead research examining how the built environment and sport infrastructure can support participation in physical activity and sport. This program of work explores how the design, accessibility, and activation of community spaces can create more inclusive, engaging, and sustainable opportunities for people to be active.
I also conduct research in sport, with a particular focus on the experiences and wellbeing of young sports officials, athlete wellbeing, and the psychological and social factors that influence participation, performance, and retention. Across all areas of my research, I work collaboratively with government, industry, and community partners to generate evidence that informs policy and practice and supports healthier, more active communities.

2026 - Outdoor Fitness Equipment Planning Guide
The Outdoor Fitness Equipment Planning Guide is an evidence-informed resource developed to support local councils in planning, designing, and activating outdoor fitness environments that are accessible, inclusive, and well used. Drawing on a multi-method research program, the guide translates findings from environmental audits, digital usage monitoring, community interviews, and industry consultation into practical recommendations for site selection, equipment choice, layout, accessibility, activation, and long-term maintenance. It provides a framework to help maximise community participation and ensure investments in outdoor fitness infrastructure deliver meaningful public health outcomes.
2023 - 6 Steps for Councils to Promote Outdoor Fitness Equipment in South Australia
The 6 Steps to Promote Outdoor Fitness Equipment resource provides local councils with practical, evidence-based strategies to increase awareness, accessibility, and community use of outdoor fitness equipment. Developed from state-wide research examining more than 200 outdoor fitness sites across South Australia, the resource outlines key actions to improve promotion, instructional signage, site safety, supporting amenities, and ongoing monitoring. It translates research findings into clear, actionable recommendations that help councils optimise the health and wellbeing benefits of existing outdoor fitness infrastructure.
