David H. Gleaves is Professor of Psychology (Clinical) and is the former director of the clinical psychology program (Master of Psychology [Clinical]) at the University of South Australia. He is also a registered clinical psychologist. Prof Gleaves was trained in the USA and has worked as an academic and clinical psychologist in three different countries (USA, NZL and AUS). His research is primarily in the areas of eating disorders, body image, trauma and dissociative disorders, and quantitative methods. He supervises student research in these areas.
Before joining the University of South Australia, Prof Gleaves was Associate Professor at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. Prior to that he was Professor of Psychology at Texas A&M University, in College Station TX, USA. Prior to that, he was Director of Research at the Renfrew Center/Foundation (Philadelphia, PA, USA).
Prof Gleaves obtained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN, USA) and a master’s and PhD in Clinical Psychology from Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge, LA, USA). He completed his clinical internship at the Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital (Philadelphia, PA, USA).
Prof Gleaves is a member of the Australian Psychological Society, the American Psychological Association, and the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation. He has won both the Morton Prince Award for Scientific Achievement and the Pierre Janet Writing Award from the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation.
