Xiaojing Wang is a PhD candidate in Medicine at the University of Adelaide and has been conducting research at the Basil Hetzel Institute for Translational Health Research since February 2025. Her research is supervised by Dr Cher-Rin Chong, Professor John Horowitz, Professor Michael Frenneaux, and Dr Zenab Dudhwala.

Her research focuses on the mechanisms underlying cardiac metabolic flexibility and the potential role of the mitochondrial pyruvate carrier (MPC) as a modulator of metabolic flexibility to improve myocardial energetics in heart failure and ischaemic heart disease.

Her interdisciplinary background in clinical medicine and drug discovery, combined with her current research in cardiovascular metabolism, enables her to approach complex translational questions from both clinical and mechanistic perspectives. This multidisciplinary expertise positions her to contribute to the development of novel metabolic therapies for cardiovascular disease.
