Dr Stephen Pederson

Coordinator - Bioinformatics Hub

School of Biological Sciences

Faculty of Sciences

I have been the Coordinator of the Bioinformatics Hub since 2014 and have overseen the growth of this facility from a single person, to several staff with a wide network of collaborators and students across all campuses of the University. My background is in genetics and statistics and I possess a high level of fluency in the the language R. I am also an enthusiastic contributor to the Bioconductor community of open source packages for the biological research community.

My personal interests are primarily focussed on transcriptomics, and I have considerable depth of experience ranging from microarrays to bulk RNA-Seq, along with a growing experience in single-cell data. I am a firm advocate of reproducibility in bioinformatics research and use git, workflowr and other management tools for all analyses.

In the Bioinformatics Hub, we regularly offer training in bash scripting, R/RStudio and HPC usage, along with other more tailored offerings to enable high quality research, and ensure scientifically reliable results.
