Dr Simran Kaur
Senior Biostatistician and Data Sciences Lead
SAIGENCI
College of Health
Dr. Simran Kaur is leading the Data Sciences Unit within the Computational Systems Oncology program at SAiGENCI. Her research focuses on the integration of clinical, genomic, and epidemiological data to investigate disease mechanisms and develop improved genetic risk scores applicable to multi-ethnic populations.
Simran completed her PhD in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics in 2015 under the supervision of Professor Flemming Pociot at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. In her PhD studies, she focused on understanding the genetic architecture of immune-mediated diseases and established computational pipelines to identify and prioritize disease associated non-coding variants. Following her PhD, Simran held postdoctoral and faculty positions at the Steno Diabetes Centre Copenhagen where she investigated roles of aberrantly expressed non-coding RNAs (including miRNAs, lncRNAs and circular RNAs) in pancreatic islets and human pancreatic β-cell lines following pro-inflammatory cytokines exposure. She also contributed to genetic data analysis in several national and international cohorts including the Danish Biobank, DiPiS, DiViD, TEDDY group and INNODIA. Her current interests include computational fine-mapping approaches to disentangle genetic risk and the dissecting HLA-mediated genetic pleiotropy across autoimmune diseases and cancers. As Senior Biostatistician and Data Sciences Lead, Simran collaborates with multidisciplinary teams at SAiGENCI to translate data-driven findings into insights that support precision medicine and improve patient outcomes.
