Dr Rudi Vernik is an adjunct Professor at Adelaide University where  he focuses predominantly on research activities, post graduate education and mentoring. Much of Rudi's research has been cross-disciplinary and conducted in collaborative and industry contexts. During his career, Rudi has held several key national and international research leadership positions involving a broad range of organisations such as DST, CSIRO, NICTA, Stanford University, University of Vienna, University of South Australia, University of Queensland and University of Sydney. His research teams focused on the development of innovative approaches and environments to support those involved in critical decision making and intense collaboration. Research was conducted in areas such as Human Systems Interaction, Ubiquitous Computing, Virtual Reality, Information Visualisation, Artificial Intelligence, and Modelling and Simulation. 
Throughout his career he has maintained active engagement with academia as an Adjunct Professor where he helped establish new research directions, held the position of director of a research laboratory, chaired and participated in advisory boards, participated in student education by providing post-graduate supervision and guest lectures, and established key linkages with other research organisations, industry and other universities. 
Rudi continues to direct his attention and abilities towards research and education activities he believes in and is passionate about. He is currently involved in research activities that focus on the use of interactive and virtual environments to support areas such as intergenerational engagement, enhancing aviation safety by using virtual reality approaches to support the foundational education of future pilots, and enhancing wellbeing through the incorporation of immersive biophilic approaches in interior design.
