He graduated in Dentistry and Medicine from University of Edinburgh. He completed higher training in both Plastic Surgery and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery mostly in Glasgow, Oxford and London. He has a research interest in craniofacial biology and genetics and has undertaken three doctoral theses on all craniofacial biology encompassing MD/PhD/DSc-DSc which is a higher doctorate in this field. He is Senior Research Fellow at the Child Health Research Institute attached to Craniosynostosis and Wound healing laboratories. To date, he has written over 100 peer-reviewed papers. He has strong commitment to teaching clinical and research, as well as supervising doctoral candidates from Australia and international post-graduates. He is currently the Past President of the Asia Pacific Craniofacial Association and past President of the Australia and New Zealand Craniomaxillofacial Society.
