Developmental dysplasia of the hips (DDH)
Women's and Children's Hospital has a long history of research into improving early detection and outcomes for children with DDH and now collaborates with the International Hip Dysplasia Institute and contributes data to the International Hip Dysplasia Registry. Multiple research opportunities are available in this field.
Paediatric musculoskeletal infections
Projects are underway investigating the best methods to investigate and manage childhood bone and joint infections including the use of procalcitonin and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to investigate and minimising invasive surgery if possible. There is opportunity to participate in prospective projects leading on from current retrospective analyses.
Paediatric trauma
Women's and Children's Hospital is the major trauma centre managing children on SA and surrounding regions. Injury prevention and multidisciplinary management are areas of ongoing research.
Spinal deformity
A prospective spinal surgery database informs many audit and research activities.
Rare diseases
Multidisciplinary research is ongoing in areas including mucopolysaccharidosis, vascular anomalies and other rare diseases.
