Namrata is a PhD candidate in Applied Economics researching development challenges with a focus on infrastructure inequality in India. Her work explores how unequal access to basic services like sanitation and energy persists despite rapid economic growth, and the social consequences that follow, such as increased crime and community-level deprivation. In parallel, she also investigates the economic and social costs of poorly managed mental health, in some of the more advanced economies.
At the core of her research is a strong belief in inclusive and equitable development. Through her work, she hopes to inform smarter and more inclusive policies that not only reduce inequalities but build resilient communities and improve human well-being.

I am an applied economics researcher interested in understanding how unequal access to basic services shapes social and economic outcomes. My work spans areas such as sanitation infrastructure, energy poverty, and mental health, with a focus on how disparities in access influence well-being and crime.

Methodologically, I work extensively with large-scale micro-level household datasets, combining them with administrative and aggregate data to construct policy-relevant measures. More recently, I have also developed an interest in labour market dynamics, particularly in understanding skills shortages, occupational demand, and workforce mismatches within the Australian context.

My broader goal is to generate evidence that informs more inclusive and effective public policies, particularly in developing and transitioning economies.
