Dr Matthew Borg is a biostatistician, an early career researcher and a non-practising medical doctor. His research interests include environmental epidemiology with a focus on the adverse health impacts of heat, public health, occupational health, climate change, nephrology, oncology and clinical trials.
Determined, passionate, and a high achiever, Matthew is a strong quantitative researcher. He has extensive experience with data analysis for both small and large dataset, is fluent with multiple statistical languages (R, SAS, Stata) and enjoys reproducible research.
Matthew's PhD project titled "Heat Stress in the Workplace: Health Service Burden and Labour Productivity Loss in Australia" evaluated the adverse impact of heat on occupational injuries, illnesses and associated economic costs in Australia. This was part of a mult-insitutional Australian Resarch Council grant, and his thesis was awarded a Dean's Commendation for Doctoral Research Excellence.
His Honours research titled "Renal Health Outcomes in Relation to Temperature and Heatwaves in Adelaide, South Australia" analysed the impact of high air temperatures on kidney disease. For his work, he was awarded First Class Honours, and the findings have been published in peer-reviewed articles.
