I am a Founding Director of Houd Research Group, Director of Research at the Women's and Children's Hospital for the Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Department, Lead of the Translational Medicine and Technology Research Program as an affiliate within the Cardiovascular Pathophysiology and Therapeutics Group at the Basil Hetzel Institute and Affiliate Associate Professor Titleholder with Adelaide University School of Medicine.

Throughout my career I have produced >130 peer reviewed publications (>8,300 citations; H-Index 41 per Google Scholar), delivered >220 presentations (7 countries inc. 10 keynote, >80 invited, >80 oral scientific conference abstracts), attracted >$10million in research funding and received 22 awards recognising research excellence and impact (e.g., 2023 Australian Musem Eureka Prize for Emerging Leader in Science; Tall Poppy Science Award; Channel 9 Premier's Young Achiever of the Year; Young Australian of the Year for SA).

Houd Research Group offers a range of services across traditional medical and scientific research practices, including community co-design of education and behaviour change programs, support research commercialisation, develop technological innovations, grant writing and more. Our mission is to improve population health and wellbeing by supporting adoption of research evidence, innovative technologies and business models for our clients, to maximise outcome sustainability and impact.

I am passionate about helping the next generation of young people find their path, and helping those on a path to find their passion. I'm a motivational speaker having given presentations in primary schools and high schools, across both national and international platforms and tailored for industry, corporate, not-for-profit, scientific, medical, educational and business stages.

I am a past board director for the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, past-Chair of the national Research Sub-Committee and current Managing Director of two medical technology-based start-ups.

Research Interests

My academic research interests span translation of evidence into practice, public policy, enhancing clinical service delivery, epidemiology, digital innovations, research commercialisation, artificial intelligence/machine learning and chronic disease management. Topic areas we have focussed on are broad, but some topics include cancer prevention and management, tobacco control, respiratory and cardiovascular disease prevention and management, Indigenous health and digital service delivery modelling.
