I am a senior lecturer in Occupational Therapy, do research as part of the UniSA IIMPACT research concentration, the collegial research group the International Centre fo Allied Health Evidence (iCAHE) and am Editor in Chief of our UniSA journal, The Allied Health Scholar. I have had a broad range of clinical experience in paediatrics and employment for people with disabilities, gained internationally and locally. My experiences have been gained in private practice, community based, school based and case management settings as well as in management. I teach into Occupational Therapy specific courses, inlcuding those with a practical, skill-based and placement components. I have a keen interest in research, I am involved in a number of research projects and supervise honours, masters level and PhD students. Through my research and teaching, I hope to advance social injustice through equal engagement and opportunities for all. My focus on teaching and research is advancing an ecological view of human development, evidence-based practice and consumer engagement.
My reseach areas include service delivery models, Occupational Therapy, Allied Health Sciences, Human Services, Human Development, Paediatrics and Early Intervention, services for people with disabilities, client views on service delivery, client participation in research and service delivery, community based approaches, management, staff development, program evaluation, systematic reviews, evidence informed practice. Methodological expertise: meta-syntheses, scoping reviews, qualitative and mixed methods.
Past and current projects include: Performance Evaluation Planning for the Student Support Services in the Department for Education, Evaluation of the Allied Health Program in Children's Centres; Collaborative Practice in Children’s Centres, Journal Clubs in Children's Centres, Development of the ACS (Aus), Gen Y student profile, Parents' Advocacy for their child with autism, Intervention addressing sensory needs in children with autism, parent-service provider partnerships, evaluation of Nuture Groups in primary schools, provision of professional development through journal clubs for occupational therapists. Current Honours and Masters projects: school readiness of SA children, development of guidelines to support self-regulation of school children; development of guidelines for parent involvement in intervention.Current PhD project focusses on investigating art therapy.
