Kate Toone is a lecturer in the School of Social Work and Social Care. Kate’s clinical work has spanned across the out of home care sector, youth, suicide prevention, maternal mental health, chronic illness, reproductive healthcare and grief and loss. Their research interests include gender and sexuality, activism, reproductive justice, sex work and alternative relationship structures.
Current projects include
- An exploration of the role of honours programs in social work education with colleagues from Adelaide University and RMIT.
- An online Photovoice project looking at experiences of safety and belonging for queer people in South Australia, and the value of non-traditional dissemination methods in the context of queer archiving https://queerexperiencesa.com/
- A body-mapping research project examining queer experiences of menopause in Victoria, with colleagues across various institutions including Victoria University
- various other publications including themes of queer identity, sex work, abortion healthcare and stigma, and the social work profession.
