I am a researcher and lecturer in the School of Psychology at the University of Adelaide. I work at the nexus of personality and social psychology with a specific focus on, and passion for, the moral psychology topics of justice, power, and forgiveness. Much of my research centres on how people’s perception of their just treatment drives their attitudes and behaviours in personal, relational, and political spheres. I also have an interest in psychometrics and latent variable structural equation modelling which I integrate into many of my research projects. Currently, I am working on improving self-report measures of the belief in a just world, a framework for validating manipulation checks, and developing a measure of the psychological experience of divine forgiveness.

My research interests focus on three main areas: The psychology of justice; the psychology of religion and spirituality; and Mental health and wellbeing.

The Psychology of justice:
My research in the psychology of justice focuses on how people understand, evaluate, and respond to justice and injustice at both individual and societal levels. Much of my work looks at the belief in a just world and justice motive theory, including how these beliefs shape responses to victimisation, political attitudes, and wellbeing. I am particularly interested in how justice beliefs operate within political contexts, influencing views about inequality, responsibility, punishment, and social policy.

In addition, my research places strong emphasis on the measurement of justice beliefs. I work on the development, validation, and refinement of justice-related measures, as well as on structural models that capture the multidimensional nature of justice beliefs and experiences. By examining how different justice constructs relate to one another, and how they function across contexts and populations, my work aims to improve empirical precision in justice research.

The psychology of religion and spirituality:
My research in the psychology of religion and spirituality examines how people experience core religious concepts, with a particular focus on divine forgiveness. Specifically, my work investigates how individuals across Christianity, Islam, and Judaism understand and experience forgiveness from God. Using prototype methodology, I have found that divine forgiveness is prototypically organised with central and peripheral attributes. Building on this, I have led the development and validation of the Divine Forgiveness Questionnaire, a multidimensional and cross-religiously invariant measure that captures key psychological dimensions of divine forgiveness.

Mental health and wellbeing:
My research on mental health and wellbeing focuses on how wellbeing can be effectively measured and improved at population and community levels. I examine the efficacy of psychological and community-based wellbeing interventions, including meta-analytic work identifying which intervention types are most effective and under what conditions. I also evaluate community-delivered programs designed to increase wellbeing, and have explored mental health during large-scale stressors such as COVID-19.
