My research focuses on understanding root branching variation in the OzBarley panel (a collection of Australian and non-Australian germplasms) using hydroponic, tissue culture-based assays and advanced phenotyping techniques such as X-ray CT imaging. My research focuses on xerobranching in barley, driven by the radial movement of abscisic acid, to assess water sensing during drought stress. My main goal is to uncover the genetic mechanisms that influence root development under different soil moisture conditions. Ultimately, we aim to enhance crop water use efficiency to develop climate-smart crops.
