I am a first year PhD student at Adelaide University in the Australian Centre for Ancient DNA (ACAD) lab group. My studies involve the use of genetics and genomics to investigate the diet (past and present), historical distribution, and demographic history of a critically endangered cave-dwelling bat, the southern bent-wing bat (Miniopterus orianae bassanii). Limited to restricted distributions in south-east South Australia and south-west Victoria, this subspecies has experienced alarming declines and is under serious threat of extinction. We aim to help inform the conservation of this small but mighty Australian endemic bat.
