Echo Chen is a PhD candidate at the University of Adelaide, specialising in Building Environmental Sustainability. As an emerging researcher, her interests focus on heritage and older houses, examining their building and energy performance within the context of climate resilience and sustainable retrofit. With training in architecture and a developing expertise in architectural science, her work combines building performance simulation, environmental monitoring, and heritage-sensitive design approaches. She aims to integrate cultural value with technical efficiency, investigating thermal comfort, moisture risk, and energy use in historic dwellings. Ultimately, her doctoral research seeks to provide evidence-based frameworks to support policy, industry, and community decisions in balancing sustainability with the preservation of heritage housing.
