Dr Carolyn Murray is teaching and research senior lecturer with strong interests in qualitative research in the areas of health workforce development and support, evaluation of aged care services and consumer experience for people living with health issues such as dementia, stroke and brain injury. Dr Murray has clinical expertise in aged care, and has developed and evaluated group programs that promote social connectedness, self-worth and engagement. Dr Murray completes research about consumer perspectives of recovery following trauma and quality of health and social care services. Dr Murray is interested in sustainability and efficiency of health and aged care systems and services across disciplines. Dr Murray is a keen educator of future occupational therapists and integrates her research into her teaching, supervision of research students and preparation of students for being practitioners.

Dr Murray is research honours coordinator across the allied health programs (honours preparation), and is a member of the UniSA IIMPACT research concentration. She has expertise in completing qualitative meta-synthesis and qualitative thematic analysis. Dr Murray has delivered many workshops about qualitative data collection and analysis to allied health professionals, honours and HDR students.

Dr Murray supervises PhD, Masters by research and honours students and is always happy to chat to prospective research students. Dr Murray has supervised HDR students to completion as principal supervisor and was nominated for supervisor of the year in 2025. She has published over 60 outputs (including journal articles and book chapters) and has research impact demonstrated through a google scholar H index of 18 and scopus H index of 14. Dr Murray has been an examiner for HDR theses and has assessed grant applications. She is associate editor for the Australian Occupational Therapy Journal.

My Research Interests
My research centres around aged care, health workforce, occupational therapy services, art and creative expression in dementia care and lived experience of neurological conditions. My research is largely qualitative in nature.

My research interests span three main areas:

  1. Consumer perspectives of health service delivery and methods for improving services at clinician, service and system levels
  2. Health Workforce Development across all health disciplines
  3. The application of creative therapies, cognitive stimulation and wellness approaches to improve quality of life for people living with dementia and their caregivers

I have methodological expertise in qualitative systematic reviews, scoping reviews and qualitative research.
