Prof Anthony Zander

Anthony Zander is a Professor in the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Adelaide. He has worked in industrial research and development, consulting and academia. He is a member of the Acoustics, Vibration and Control group and his research interests include Acoustics, Vibrations, Active Noise Control, Ultrasonics, Assistive Technologies, and Engineering Education. He teaches courses in the areas of Vibrations, Acoustics, Signal Processing, Condition Monitoring and Machine Dynamics. He has been a member of academic staff at the University since mid-1999, performing a range of teaching, research, administration and leadership roles. Prior to joining the University he gained valuable industry experience during four years as a Senior Research Engineer in a large industrial research lab (United Technologies Research Center, CT, USA) and as a Senior Consulting Engineer in Acoustics and Vibration. He was Head of the School of Mechanical Engineering from February 2014 to the end of 2022, and Acting Head from April to July 2013.
My research encompasses investigation of acoustics, vibration and dynamics of systems ranging from nanoscale materials, human biomechanics, through to industrial-scale noise and vibration control, as well as making use of sound in loudspeaker design, as a deterrent, or in active noise control.
