Professor (Dr) Alkis Psaltis is Head of the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He is a also Professor in the Department of Surgery, at the University of Adelaide. Prof Psaltis, completed his advanced ENT training in Adelaide in 2010. He completed three subspecialty fellowships in advanced endoscopic sinus surgery and anterior skull base surgery in Auckland, NZ, Charleston, USA and Stanford University SA.

Prof Psaltis has a strong research and academic interest. He completed his PhD in 2008 and authored > 160 peer-reviewed articles and 15 book chapters. He serves on the editorial board of The American Journal of Rhinology, The Australian Journal of Otolaryngology, The Annals Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology and Frontiers Clinical Microbiology.

He is considered a leader in rhinology and sinus surgery and is a regular invited keynote speaker at many international and national ENT conferences and sinus courses.

  • CRS- Influences of the microbiome on chronic rhinosinusitis, topical treatment for the management of sinusitis
  • Skull Base surgery - management of CSF leaks, sinonasal malignancies, pituitary tumours, vascular injury
  • Lacrimal disorders

Professor Psaltis’s research interests include evaluating causes of chronic rhinosinusitis particularly the role of bacterial biofilms and perturbation in the microbiome, lacrimal disorders and the development of topical therapies to combat chronic rhinosinusitis. He is currently the primary investigator on a world wide study investigating alteration in the microbiome in patients with sinusitis.
