I specialise in sustainable insect bioconversion, with a research focus on the biology, rearing systems, and industrial applications of the Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens). My work centres on optimising BSF larval production for organic waste valorisation, alternative protein supply for aquaculture, and the development of circular bioeconomic systems.

My research integrates laboratory-based experimentation with pilot-scale production trials, investigating key factors influencing larval growth performance, nutrient composition, system efficiency, and economic viability. This applied research has directly contributed to the design, establishment, and optimisation of a functioning BSF insectary at the Roseworthy campus, bridging the gap between experimental research and scalable production systems.

A core strength of my work lies in translating biological outcomes into industry-relevant and economically informed solutions, supported by modelling approaches and real-world production constraints. Through close collaboration with the South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI), my research aligns with state and national priorities in sustainable agriculture, waste reduction, and alternative proteins. This partnership enables knowledge exchange, access to applied research platforms, and direct engagement with industry stakeholders.

I actively engage in interdisciplinary collaboration, international research networks, and stakeholder engagement to ensure that my research delivers practical outcomes and facilitates adoption within target markets. By contributing to the development of scalable, sustainable insect farming practices, my work supports broader global efforts in food security, resource efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

2026- IFW international conference to present "Metagenomic Insights into Gut Microbiota Modulation by Black Soldier Fly Larvae in Three Australian Aquaculture Species and "Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens) characterisation of gut microbiome".

My teaching approach is grounded in applied, hands‑on learning informed by my expertise in black soldier fly husbandry and production systems and molecular laboratory techniques. I have mentored Honours students, guiding them through the full BSF production workflow—from colony maintenance and optimisation to experimental troubleshooting—while fostering critical thinking and scientific independence.

In my role as a molecular laboratory manager, I teach and support students in a range of molecular methodologies, including in situ hybridisation (ISH), DNA/RNA extractions, and best‑practice laboratory workflows. I also provide instruction in laboratory organisation, quality control, equipment maintenance, and safe laboratory practices, ensuring students develop both technical competence and professional laboratory skills.
