Saira Ali has extensive experience in the media industry, having worked at the top tiers of publishing with Kitab Pvt Ltd and the Oxford University Press in Pakistan. She started her academic career in 2015 at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC), where she taught various Public Relations and Social Media courses. She joined University of Adelaide in 2020. Her current research focuses on media, securitization, and critical terrorism studies.
I am interested in the mediatisation of risk and the construction of security narratives across diverse cultural sites. Taking a multidisciplinary approach, my research contributes to contemporary debates, generating knowledge about the impact of media on risk perception, as well as exploring how East-West security policy and practice intersect. I am the author of Mediatised Terrorism: East-West Narratives of Risk (Routledge Critical Terrorism Studies book series), and co-author of Public Relations and Strategic Communication (Oxford University Press).
