Professor Lucie Walters, PhD, MBBS (UoA), DCH, FRANZCOG, FRACGP, FACRRM is Director of the Adelaide Rural Clinical School. Her experience in rural medical educational leadership spans across the continuum from vocational, and prevocational arenas to medical school longitudinal integrated clinical placements. She was instrumental in developing Australia's reputation for longitudinal integrated clerkships, contributing particularly to Flinders University, Otago University and University of Northern Ontario programs.

Prof Walters has worked as a rural generalist in Mount Gambier since 1993 with clinical scope during this time covering: general practice, emergency medicine and inpatient care. With a PhD in medical education, Prof Walters recognises the importance in educational scholarship and context relevant rural clinical research. She has demonstrated research expertise in the fields of work-integrated learning, adult education pedagogies, rural training pathways and workforce, and more recently rural health service research.

Prof Walters is passionate about improving the health outcomes of rural people through the education, training and professional support of rural doctors. She is past President of the Australian College or Rural and Remote Medicine and still serves on the Assessment and Research committees for the College. As a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors course and member of the National Medical Training Advisory Committee she has a clear commitment to education governance.

Professor Walters is Director of the Adelaide Rural Clinical School. This program provides a full academic year of clinical training to University of Adelaide medical students in their penultimate year. Students are based in small rural communities in the north and west part of rural South Australia where they actively participate in patient care under the supervision of experienced rural doctors in general practice, rural hospitals, and community and outpatient settings. 

Her research interests include work-integrated learning, adult education pedagogies, rural training pathways, and rural generalism and resilience in medicine.
