Eligible to supervise Masters and PhD - email supervisor to discuss availability.

Dr Wei Zeng is a senior lecturer with experience in multidisciplinary disciplines, including hydraulics, acoustics, AI, IoT and optical fibre sensing, and CFD.

  • Smart water networks (IoT) for diagnosis

My research in this area focuses on AI machine learning, signal processing and data analytics to process IoT data in cloud-based environments for online water/wastewater network monitoring. I am a co-founder of the University start-up Adelitics Pty Ltd, which commercialised the IoT acoustic leak detection techniques and applied them in 7 water utilities.

  • Urban water system hydraulic modelling

My research focuses on hydraulic modelling of water supply, sewer and stormwater systems. We are developing high-fidelity and high-efficiency models that are tailored for physics-data integration using physics-based machine learning and data assimilation and for real-time control.

  • Water asset maintenance - pipe condition assessment

Our hydraulic-transient-based pipe condition assessment technique, developed by former group members, has been commercialised globally as P-CAT by our industry partner. We are developing next-generation hydro-acoustic pipe condition assessment techniques for anomaly detection (e.g., blockages, wall deterioration) in water supply and sewer pipe systems.

  • Pumped hydro and mini-hydro

I focus on hydraulic transient analysis in pumped hydro power stations, in particular on inverse transient analysis of aging pumped hydro schemes and CFD analysis of hydraulic machinery. I am also interested in pumped/mini hydro energy storage integrated with renewables.
