Yohannes is public health and nutritional epidemiology trainee with a special interest in data management, analysis and interpretation of epidemiological and clinical studies. He has also intererest in methods in nutritonal and sleep epidemiology. Diet-disease relationship, dietary data analysis methods and causal inference in nutritional and sleep epidemiology are his focus of research.

Between January 2009 and July 2015, he worked at Mekelle University (Ethiopia), School of Public Health, at different academic and research positions. Between October 2013 and July 2015, he also led Kilite-Awlaelo Health and Demographic Surveillance System (KA-HDSS) and other research projects with the responsibility of supervising the overall project activities, designing field studies, and data management and analysis. He has been published in several peer-reviewed academic journals in the areas of epidemiology, nutrition and public health.

He earned his PhD in November 2018 from The University of Adelaide. In December 2019, he joined Flinders to advance his research in nutritional and sleep epidemiology.
