Yohannes is a PhD student at Adelaide University. His research focuses on the impact of lifestyle behaviours—including physical inactivity, sedentarybehaviour, dietary habits, alcohol use, cigarette smoking, and cannabis use—on adolescent mental health conditions, particularly depressive symptoms and suicidal behaviours. His work uses global data from more than 90 countries with diverse socioeconomic contexts. In 2024, he received the Healthy Development Adelaide (HDA) and Channel 7 Children’s Research Foundation (CRF) PhD Excellence Award. Before commencing his PhD in Australia, Yohannes worked as a Lecturer and Researcher at Madda Walabu University in Ethiopia and has authoredmore than 60 research articles.
