Dr Duan obtained PhD from Curtin University in 2016 and He is currently an ARC DECRA Fellow at School of Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials, ECMS of UoA. His research areas focus on environmental science and technology, green catalysis, and nanomaterials. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed research papers including 26 ESI Highly Cited Papers (1%) on Accounts of Chemical Research, Advanced Materials, Angew Chemie Int Ed, Matter, ACS Catalysis, Environmental Science & Technology etc. His publications received over 8000 citations with h-index of 47. He was awarded the Australian Research Council Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) and the Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researcher in 2020. He has been seleted by The Australian newspaper as the Australian Research Early Achievers Leaderboard - TOP 40 Rising Stars in the past three years from 2018 to 2020.

Dr Duan has been dedicated to seeking feasible applications of nanomaterials in environmental remediation and facilitating mechanistic insights into carbocatalysis with advanced protocols

His research areas include:
• Heterogeneous and green catalysis
• Water purification and advanced oxidation technologies
• Functional nanomaterials and nanotechnology
• Microplastic and bushfire contamination control
• Theoretical calculations
