I am trade economist, holding a PhD in Economics from the University of Adelaide, Australia, a Master’s in International Economics from Waseda University, Japan, and a Master’s in International Trade Law and Policy (LL.M) from the University of Barcelona, Spain. With nearly 20 years of experience, I have been actively engaged in economic research and policy debates, particularly in Cambodia and the East Asian region. From 2004 to 2018, I served as a research fellow at the Cambodia Development Resource Institute (CDRI), focusing on trade, economic integration, and firm performance analysis. My core competencies lie in trade policy analysis using quantitative methods. Additionally, I am an appointed external trade expert to the Royal Government of Cambodia’s Trade Policy Advisory Board.I have a strong interest in advancing his knowledge and research in trade economics, industrial policy, global value chain, and firm strategy analysis, especially within the context of the evolving global economic and trade landscape. I am currently working on the research on 'Trade Diversion in ASEAN amid the US–China Trade War: Does Geopolitical Alignment Matter?'.
My research focuses on international trade and industrial policy, with a particular emphasis on trade policy modeling, firm performance, and global value chains. I apply advanced econometric and statistical techniques to analyze the impact of trade policies on sectoral dynamics, firm productivity, and broader economic outcomes. My work also explores the determinants of global value chain participation, as well as the intersection of geopolitics and trade in an evolving global economic landscape.
Below are highlights of my recent studies:
- Trade Diversion in ASEAN amid the US–China Trade War: Does Geopolitical Alignment Matter? (Ongoing)
- Quantifying the Impact of Service Trade Restrictiveness on Trade for ASEAN
- Quantifying the Impact of Digitalisation on Trade for ASEAN
