I am a molecular microbiologist fascinated by the complexity surrounding bacterial disease. My interest is in figuring out how the “simplest” life forms on Earth spread around our bodies and escape both innate host defences and treatments. I am particularly curious about the interactions between pathogens with our own cells and the microbiome. The roles that bacterial metabolism, specifically sugar utilisation, play in infectious disease is a particular research interest.

I am also passionate about space research. To pursue this passion, I co-founded and am currently the Chief Scientific Officer of the space research company ResearchSat, which provides nanosatellite platforms that allow researchers to perform scientific experiments in space.
