Vicky Visvanathan is a Lecturer for the Bachelor of Nursing program at College of Health, Adelaide University. She has 38 years of extensive clinical experience working as an acute care and critical care nurse in various disciplines within Australia and Malaysia. Vicky has served as a senior trauma nurse at emergency department at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (KLH), Malaysia, with certifications in post-graduate emergency nursing, Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and experience in Emergency Medical Air Rescue Services (EMARS), and has worked as a frontline responder in several disaster relief operations. She has also served as a senior nurse in emergency ward, burns unit and other disciplines in Ipoh Hospital (IH), Malaysia. Vicky was instrumental in establishing the “One-Stop Crisis Centre” for victims of domestic violence, child abuse and sexual assault at both Kuala Lumpur Hospital and Ipoh Hospital, Malaysia.
 
Vicky completed her Re-entry Registered Nurse program at University of South Australia and worked in various health care sectors within Australia, including intensive care unit, Royal Adelaide Hospital for the last 23 years. She commenced her role as an academic 18 years ago after completing her Master's degree. She has taught various courses across all stages of program and have coordinated large clinical courses (Experiential Learning Activity 3 - Acute Care placements for Stage II students and Experiential Learning Activity 5 - Transition to Practice Practicum for Stage III students).
 
She pursued her higher degree research study (PhD) that investigated a specific cardiac condition: "stress-induced cardiomyopathy in the critically ill patients admitted to the intensive care unit" and developed a clinical pathway for frontline nurses to early recognise this cardiac condition. Vicky currently teaches in second and third year undergraduate courses: Health of Adult (acute care), Health of Older People (aged care) and Evidence Based Nursing Practice, courses that that emphasise the importance of recognising and managing life threatening situations, providing holistic, patient centered care and improving clinical practice through evidence-based research and knowledge translation.
 
Vicky has been an examiner for Honors thesis (2017), confirmation of candidature for Masters research degree (2018) and has supervised a Nursing Project in developing a protocol for CPAP ventilation for patients admitted to intensive care unit.
