Academic

Tristan King is a passionate educator and advocate for transformative, opportunity-driven education. As Program Director of Foundation Studies and UniStart at UniSA, he works at the forefront of widening participation, supporting students from diverse backgrounds to access and succeed in tertiary study. His academic journey began in the health sciences before moving into enabling education, where he has since become a recognised voice in equity-informed teaching and curriculum development.
Tristan brings a strong commitment to inclusive, student-centred learning. He currently teaches and designs courses in academic literacies, with a focus on empowering students with the skills and confidence to thrive at university. He also draws on his health sciences background to design and deliver foundational courses in areas such as anatomy and physiology. His work is grounded in the belief that education should be a transformative experience—accessible, empowering, and tailored to support students from all walks of life.
A core focus of Tristan’s role as Program Director has been supporting at-risk students and ensuring effective, compassionate support for those navigating complex needs or circumstances. His contributions to enabling education have been recognised through multiple awards, including a national Australian Award for University Teaching (AAUT) and a UniSA Citation for Teaching Excellence. Tristan is deeply invested in fostering a supportive academic environment that builds student capability and community, and his work continues to shape enabling education at UniSA and across the sector
