Tian Wang is a materials engineer with a strong academic background in materials science and manufacturing engineering. I hold a Master’s degree where I focused on the environmental performance of materials and additive manufacturing, complementing my Bachelor’s research on the microstructure evolution of high-entropy alloys. My current research focuses on DES-Programmed, Li-First Hybrid Flowsheets for Circular Battery Recycling via Selective Coordination and Anti-Solvent Crystallisation, aiming to develop sustainable processes for recovering valuable materials from end-of-life lithium-ion batteries. I am passionate about advancing green technologies and promoting a circular economy in the energy storage sector.
My research focuses on the development of next-generation green solvents for sustainable recycling of lithium-ion batteries, with a particular emphasis on deep eutectic solvents (DESs).
I am interested in understanding how molecular interactions—such as hydrogen bonding, coordination chemistry, and solvation environments—govern metal leaching and separation behaviors. By designing novel DES systems beyond conventional chloride-based formulations, my work aims to establish chloride-free, low-viscosity, and industrially viable solvent platforms.
My current research explores three complementary directions:
Bio-based DES systems for low-temperature and low-viscosity metal extraction
Amino-acid-derived DESs to investigate Li-first or Li-selective leaching through differential solvation
Strong-acid, chloride-free DESs for rapid and scalable metal recovery
More broadly, I aim to bridge fundamental chemistry (coordination, redox, solvation structure) with process-level innovation, including programmable solvent systems, antisolvent crystallization, and closed-loop solvent recycling.
Ultimately, my goal is to contribute to the development of economically viable and environmentally sustainable battery recycling technologies.
