Dr Thao Nguyen is a cancer and precision medicine researcher whose work seeks to understand and target the biological mechanisms driving disease relapse. As a former NHMRC Peter Doherty Early Career Research Fellow and current Research Fellow at the Centre for Pharmaceutical Innovation, she leads research at the interface of stem cell biology, molecular diagnostics, cancer genomics, and therapeutic innovation.
Her research combines laboratory, translational, and clinical approaches to develop novel strategies for targeting cancer stem cells, overcoming treatment resistance, and improving outcomes for patients with acute myeloid leukaemia and other cancers. Current interests include nanomedicine, oral cancer, host-microbiome interactions, periodontal disease, and antimicrobial resistance.
With more than $2.2 million in competitive funding and over two decades of research experience, Dr Nguyen is committed to translating scientific discovery into meaningful clinical impact.
