Dr T Ghanbari Ghazijahani

Tohid Ghanbari Ghazijahani completed his BEng in Civil Engineering and MEng and PhD in Structural Engineering. Tohid was a lecturer at PNU in 2010-13, and became a distinguished lecturer in this role in 2013. He was awarded a full scholarship from UTAS in Australia, and completed his PhD in 2017 with Dean of Faculty's Outstanding Research Performance Award. He was the lecturer in charge of Structural Mechanics, and research assistant at UTAS. He was a visiting lecturer of UTAS at XUST in China in 2016. He was offered by a lectureship position at UTAS, and DVCR’s research fellowship of the University of Adelaide in 2017. He accepted the latter position and is now a University Research Fellow (level B) at the University of Adelaide. Tohid’s research focus is structural stability of thin-walled steel, and lightweight composite structures including:

  • Experimental techniques;
  • Buckling and post-buckling;
  • Geometrical irregularities;
  • Static and fatigue experiments;
  • Sustainability and environmental consideration in construction.

The competition was from all disciplines.
  • Dean’s Award for Exceptional Performance by Current Higher Degree by Research Candidates: this Award was granted by the University of Tasmania in 2016. This is the most prestigious award available in the Faculty of Science, Engineering, and Technology, which Tohid competed among six different schools of the Faculty.
  • Young Scientist Award: this award was supported by Springer, granted after a comprehensive review in the International Conference on Advanced Computational Engineering and Experimenting in 2012.
  • University of Tasmania’s internal research funding: this funding was granted for structural tests of the candidate’s PhD research in 2014.
  • Head of School's conference travel grant: this was granted in recognition of research excellence among other higher degree by research students in the School of Engineering & ICT at the University of Tasmania in 2015.
  • Research funding of Iran Water Resources Management Company: this research grant was awarded after a careful review of a proposed project on the settlement of steel pipelines in 2011. He was the sole chief investigator of the project.
  • Research grant of Iranian National Elites Foundation, and Urmia University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research): this was granted jointly by the two organisations to sponsor the candidates Masters research in 2012.
  • Research Grant, Urmia University’s Vice-Chancellor (Research): the candidate was the 2nd chief investigator of this project, which was about buckling of castellated beams, performed in 2010-2012.
  • Financial research award for quality publication: this award was in recognition of publishing quality papers in journals with the JRK index greater than 0.75 at the time of application. Tohid was granted three awards during 2011-2013.
