I am Shuhrat Yarashov, a PhD candidate in Economics at the School of Economics and Public Policy at the University of Adelaide, where I am also a recipient of a University of Adelaide Research Scholarship.

My main research interests include macroeconomics, the efficiency of government spending, and income inequality. During my PhD journey, I plan to explore the efficiency of government fiscal policy and policies addressing income inequality and poverty.

With over a decade of strategic experience in economic policymaking and a solid academic foundation in econometrics and development economics, my research is driven by a commitment to evidence-based analysis of pressing socio-economic challenges. I bring to my scholarly work a blend of high-level government service and rigorous academic inquiry, focusing on the interplay between public expenditure, institutional quality, and socio-demographic outcomes in transitional and post-conflict economies.

My academic journey began with a deep interest in public finance and statistical systems, which I nurtured during my tenure as Head of the Division of Investment and Construction Statistics at the State Statistics Committee, and later as Deputy Head at the Department of Finance Ministry of Uzbekistan. These roles grounded my understanding of national economic mechanisms and equipped me with practical skills in data interpretation, economic forecasting, and policy evaluation. Transitioning into academia, I have used this experience to inform a robust research agenda that bridges macroeconomic theory and applied econometric modeling.

Currently a PhD candidate in Economics and a tutor at University of Adelaide, my primary research explores the socio-economic consequences of military expenditures. Furthermore, my research interests are development economics, fiscal policy, government spending efficiency, and inequality.

In addition to my scholarly output, I am actively involved in guiding undergraduate research and promoting statistical literacy, with teaching responsibilities spanning subjects such as Economic Principles, Data Analytics, and Intermediate Econometrics.

My research philosophy is grounded in methodological transparency, cross-country comparative analysis, and a firm belief in the power of data to inform equitable and sustainable economic policies. As I continue to develop my academic profile, I am particularly interested in interdisciplinary collaborations at the intersection of economics, public policy, and demography, with a focus on resilience-building in transitioning societies.
