Sergio is a PhD candidate in the College of Business and Law at the University of Adelaide. His research examines how entrepreneurial ecosystems influence the financing, growth and location decisions of high-growth firms, with a particular focus on peripheral regions. Drawing on systems thinking and qualitative research methods, his work explores how entrepreneurs, investors, institutions, and government policies interact to shape the development and resilience of the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
 
Before commencing his PhD, Sergio accumulated more than 10 years of experience designing, implementing, and evaluating innovation, entrepreneurship, and industry development programs across government, universities, and innovation agencies in Australia and Colombia. His professional experience spans innovation policy, advanced manufacturing, technology commercialisation, entrepreneurship support, program evaluation and stakeholder engagement. His research interests include entrepreneurial ecosystems, entrepreneurial finance, innovation policy, regional development, advanced manufacturing and systems thinking.
