Adj. Ass. Prof. Dr. Robert E. Steinert earned his PhD in Nutrition and Gastrointestinal Physiology from the ETH Zurich, Switzerland, in 2011. Following his doctoral studies, he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Basel and the University of Adelaide, where he specialized in gastrointestinal motility and gut hormone physiology.
In 2014, Dr. Steinert joined dsm-firmenich, a global science-based leader in nutrition, health, and beauty headquartered in Switzerland. Within the organization, he has led numerous research and innovation initiatives focused on dietary fibers, prebiotics, probiotics, and their impact on human health. Throughout his tenure, he has held a range of scientific and leadership positions, including Senior Scientist, R&D Segment Lead, and Global Science Lead, driving research strategy, product innovation, and the development of the company's R&D pipeline.
Since 2022, Dr. Steinert has served as Principal Scientist within the Human Nutrition & Care (HNC) business unit, where he leads scientific programs in gut health, microbiome research, and technology development. In parallel with his industry role, he is a part-time Research Fellow and Privatdozent at the University of Zurich. Since 2023, he has also served as Co-Chair of the Scientific Committee of the International Probiotics Association.
Dr. Steinert has authored or co-authored more than 80 peer-reviewed scientific publications and is an inventor on over 15 patents, reflecting his contributions to advancing microbiome science, gut health, and nutritional innovation.
