Research Title:
An investigation of facilitating critical thinking in English language classes when speaking and listening are practised in an Indonesian senior high school
Project Summary:
This research project aims to address the gaps in understanding of critical thinking and its assessment in the Indonesian English as an Additional Language (EAL) senior high school curriculum. The study will investigate critical thinking through teachers’ perceptions, practices and challenges of integrating and implementing speaking and listening skills in their English language classes. The significance of the study is that it will move the field past entrenched practices and partial theorisation by providing a more coherent theoretical conceptualisation that will be useful for guiding teachers. The study will also develop knowledge that will inform Indonesian English Language Teaching (ELT) pre-service and in-service teachers’ training and workshops in critical thinking, an area of major interest to the Indonesian Ministry of National Education.
