Rian is a physiotherapy academic with more than a decade of combined teaching, research and clinical experience. She is a Research Fellow at the Transfer Science Division of JBI and the Field Lead in musculoskeletal and nervous system of the JBI EBP Database, where she works with experts in the field from across the globe to create resources that perpetuate evidence-based health care at the point of care.Prior to joining JBI, Rian was a highly experienced and systematic course coordinator and instructor of physiotherapy assessment and treatment modules, evidence-based practice, and research for undergraduate students. She worked as a physiotherapy clinician and instructor in the Philippines before moving to United Arab Emirates in 2013 to work for a government institute that pioneered physiotherapy education for females in the capital state of Abu Dhabi, where she worked as a senior lecturer until 2022. Apart from her chief responsibilities of teaching, assessment and clinical placement, she also held leadership roles in research ethics, curriculum development, educational technology, and quality assurance.Rian has done voluntary community services in areas of emergency response, post-race conditioning of triathletes, and not-for-profit professional organisations. She served on the board of officers of the Philippine Physical Therapy Association from 2010 to 2012. She currently volunteers for the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd) of Australia and New Zealand as a branch committee member.
Rian is an experienced researcher with published primary and secondary research works. Her PhD work focused on exploring how evidence-based practice is embedded in the practice of physiotherapy undergraduates during clinical placement. Her research interests include musculoskeletal and neurological rehabilitation, gait assessment and training, and the pedagogy of evidence-based practice.
