Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology

Purna B. Samal (Graduate Student Member, IEEE) received a B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from the College of Science and Technology, Royal University of Bhutan (RUB), Thimphu, Bhutan, in 2008, and an M.E. degree in electrical engineering (with a major in electronics and integrated circuits) from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven), Leuven, Belgium, in 2013. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree with the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, The University of Adelaide, Adelaide, SA, Australia.

He is also a casual tutor teaching Electronic Circuits at the University of Adelaide since 2020. From 2009 to 2019, he was a Lecturer with the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department, College of Science and Technology, RUB. During his tenure, he also served as a Program Leader of Instrumentation and Control Engineering from 2018 to 2019, a member of the College Research Committee from 2015 to 2019, and a Staff Secretary from 2015 to 2018.

Mr. Samal was a recipient of the Annual University Research Grant of the Royal University of Bhutan from 2014 to 2015. He received the 2011 Exchange by Promoting Quality Education, Research and Training in South and South–East Asia (EXPERTS) Scholarship and the Adelaide Scholarship International in 2019. He was awarded the Grant Funded Supplementary Scholarship from December 2019 to 2021. He has reviewed articles for IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, Microwave and Optical Technology Letters, Wiley, and the International Journal of RF and Microwave Computer-Aided Engineering. His current research interests include wearable antenna design, flexible ultrawideband antennas, wireless body area networks (WBANs), unconventional conductive and dielectric materials for wearable antenna design, and drone applications for rescue operations.
