Dental decay is a preventable disease.
The burden of poor oral health is greatest on the disadvantaged and socially marginalised.
These realities guide my academic and research focus on preventive, person-centred care. Applying the principles of adult education, I facilitate the transformation of learners into highly effective clinicians; equipped with the knowledge, clinical skills and professionalism that are vital to deliver quality person-centred care.

Online professionalism; a dental students’ perspective
Research/Project overview
Immediate compliance with the code of conduct as determined by the Dental Board of Australia, faces all enrolling dental students in Australian Universities. Preceding formal teaching of expectations and limited opportunities for socialisation, these legal and ethical precedents present immediate challenges to dental students navigating the complex construct of professionalism. The online preservation of professional values presents a unique challenge and potential opportunity for exposure in this cohort.
The rapid development of online platforms and changing societal expectations challenge the dental profession, where online interactions blur the boundaries of professional and private life and progress continues around developing the appropriate parameters of what may be an appropriate relationship between social media and health.
This research aims to explore the student perspective around online professionalism, the project will be a qualitative analysis of focus group interview data. It is anticipated that the proposed research will progress and assist the development of educational tools designed to assist students navigating dental professionalism online.
