Phil Johnson is a Lecturer in College of Business and Law, and Course Coordinator of the two of the University’s large first-year introductory accounting course. He also teaches across a range of first- and second-year accounting courses.
Phil’s academic career has focused on creating engaging, high-quality learning experiences for accounting students studying on campus, online and internationally. He has led a range of initiatives to enhance student learning and success, including the implementation of virtual classrooms for online students, the development of discipline-wide accounting concept videos, and the creation of an electronic marking system that supports detailed, timely and consistent feedback across large student cohorts.
A graduate of UniSA, Phil holds a Bachelor of Accountancy and is a CPA Australia member. Prior to entering academia, he worked in both the not-for-profit sector and commercial accounting roles, including with BAE Systems.
Phil’s research interests are centred on accounting education, particularly assessment design, student engagement and strategies to improve student success. His contributions to teaching excellence have been recognised through a UniSA Senior Career Teacher Award, Teaching Collaboration and Peer Support Team Awards and numerous Teaching Commendations.
Phil served as an elected member of the UniSA Academic Board and UniSA Business Academic Board. Beyond the University, he is Treasurer of the Morialta Uniting Netball Club Inc
With more than 25 years of teaching experience across tertiary education and extensive professional accounting experience, Phil brings a strong combination of academic expertise, industry knowledge and a student-centred approach to accounting education.
