Patrick is a freelance journalist and journalism tutor. His professional background is as a motoring journalist focusing on car reviews, feature articles, and automotive news coverage. After training with the experienced team at Wheels magazine, he has written for publications in Australia and overseas including DriveTribe, Finder, The Weekender Herald, Vehicle History, and most recently Retro Rides, of which he currently serves as Deputy Editor. He also founded the websites Drive Section in 2019 and Essential Drives in 2024, with these websites blending motoring and travel writing with a focus on high-quality imagery and storytelling.
After being part of UniSA’s innovative virtual reality journalism pilot study as an undergraduate student, he returned to the university in 2023 to research the development of effective grammar and narrative structures for interactive storytelling in VR, completing First Class Honours and being awarded the Chancellor’s Letter of Commendation. This research was later published in the Australian Journalism Review in 2025. Drawing upon this and his professional experience, he has taught and/or coordinated subjects including Virtual Reality Storytelling, Feature Writing, Professional Writing, and Advanced Professional Writing at UniSA.
