Oliver is a researcher and student at the University of Adelaide, working in collaboration with the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML), School of Psychology, and the Perception, Attention, Learning and Memory Lab (PALM). He has attained degrees in Psychological Science and Philosophy, subsequently working on human interaction with AI systems at various institutes.

He is currently completing postgraduate research under the supervision of Professor Carolyn Semmler, Professor Anton Van Den Hengel, Dr Jonathan Opie, and Dr William Ngiam. This research is in collaboration with the above institutes and supported by the AIML Industrial AI Scholar Program and the University of Adelaide Research Award.

His studies and research have primarily focused within the fields of cognitive science, particularly on anthropomorphism, trust, decision-making, agency, mind perception, and consciousness. Recent projects concern applications of vector-database retrieval methods for large scale LLMs, validating psychometric measures of trust in various AI systems, building human-AI interaction experiments that explore perceptions of unpredictability, agency, mind and trust in widespread generative models. Oliver is actively seeking opportunities that concern the impact of AI technology development on human behaviour and society.
