Dr Nicholas A. Sparks
Manager, Archival Collections, State Library, South Australia
Honorary Associate, Medieval and Early Modern Centre, University of Sydney (Australia).
Visiting Research Fellow, School of Humanities, Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics, University of Adelaide (Australia).

I hold a PhD in Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic from the University of Cambridge and a Masters of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) from the University of Canberra. I first trained as a medieval historian with a focus on manuscript studies and book history. I continue to research and publish in this field, particularly on early books, in manuscript and print, bibliographical and provenance research, and the history of the book in Australia.

I am qualified to authenticate, catalogue and value manuscripts, books and archival material.

I am interested in the development of collections of unique documentary materials and making them available to the community of Adelaide and beyond. I am passionate about sharing research and learning about early books and their historical contexts, especially study of the history of book, provenance research, digital humanities, and the transmission of medieval and early modern learning and culture.
