Monique Wilson is a PhD candidate (completed; awaiting conferral) with the Persistent Pain Research Group at Adelaide University. With more than eight years of experience as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist, she was inspired to pursue research aimed at improving the clinical implementation of pain science education. Recognising the competing demands and time constraints faced by clinicians, Monique’s work seeks to bridge the research-to-practice gap through the development and evaluation of innovative strategies and resources that support the effective translation of pain science education into real-world clinical practice. She also has extensive experience in co-design methodology, working collaboratively with patients and clinicians to ensure end-user perspectives, needs, and preferences are meaningfully integrated throughout the research process.

Monique’s research explores innovative strategies to improve the clinical implementation of pain science education, with a focus on meaningful end-user engagement. Her work has included examining the current state of pain science education in physiotherapy practice, co-designing a simplified pain science education resource for time-poor clinicians, and conducting pilot feasibility testing in real-world practice. She has also explored community-based pain science education approaches, including the co-design of a pain science-informed peer mentorship program for people with knee osteoarthritis.
